Super Bowl Snacks: Cheezy Garlic Herb Popcorn
Need a Super Bowl Snack?
The big game is coming up on Sunday and I bet you’re trying to figure out what to eat!
How about some popcorn?!
Our family loves popcorn! It’s the perfect snack for movie nights, as well as when you’re watching football. So I thought that I would share it with you as a super easy, and secretly healthy, Super Bowl Snack!
Easy, peasy popcorn
Popcorn is incredibly easy to make! You don’t have to buy a special piece of equipment to make popcorn, or only stick to the microwavable popcorn bags. Just read my couple of tips in the recipe below and you will be shocked at how easy popcorn making is with a regular pot and lid that you already have in your kitchen!
Popcorn is also great because it's…
- Easy to make any amount you want: you can make a little bit of popcorn for a few people, or make a huge pot for a crowd to snack on!
- Inexpensive
- Quick to make
- The seasoning options are endless!
Flava, flav!
Popcorn is not naturally very flavorful, so we need a big punch of flavor in the seasoning. This recipe uses a few savory ingredients to add a ton of flavor: garlic powder, dried oregano and nutritional yeast!
Secret Ingredient
Nutritional yeast is the secret ingredient in this recipe. Don’t let the name fool you! Nutritional yeast is a deactivated yeast made from a strain of Saccharomyces cerevisiae. This yeast is actually used in baking, wine making and brewing. See, it’s a good yeast! Nutritional yeast, sometimes called “nooch” for short, is sold commercially as yellow flakes or a powder. It has a cheesy flavor but doesn’t contain any dairy, so it’s a great alternative for vegans. In fact, it is so popular that food products containing nutritional yeast use the term “cheezy” with the letter Z instead of an S, to describe the flavor.
One serving of nutritional yeast, about 2 tbsps, contains 9 g protein and provides all 9 amino acids that the body cannot produce. Nutritional yeast is also very high in vitamins B1 and B2, and some fortified versions of nutritional yeast also have B12 added to it. B vitamins can help with cell growth, energy levels, eyesight, hormones, brain function, digestion and so much more. So you can see why nutritional yeast is such an awesome secret ingredient in this popcorn recipe!
I think you’re really going to be surprised at how delicious this popcorn is! No one will even realize that the cheezy flavor is actually coming from the nutrient-dense nutritional yeast. Plus, the cheezy flavor pairs so well with the savory garlic and oregano… delish! I’ve served this popcorn to my family and friends, and my amazing friend, Sabrina, says that I always make the best popcorn! Now, you can make the best popcorn too!
